Despite what you might be thinking, no, the presenters at Sony's recent PS5 reveal event were not rendered or recreated in CGI.

For a short while, the internet was alight with rumours that the presenters weren't real people at all, merely digital representations, but now Sony has come forward to confirm that the presenters were real and had, in fact, recorded their segments in their own homes.

A poll on ResetEra showed that almost 61 per cent of the 176 people polled believed that the human presenters were digitalised in a way to show off the PS5's processing power. Similar theories popped up on Twitter and Facebook, too.

The rumours were further compounded by an announcement early on in the show that said: "all game footage you are about to see from this point forward in the show has been captured from Playstation 5 systems". Some seemingly took that comment a little more literally than others, speculating that it included the presenters, too.

To settle the conspiracy theory, Polygon reached out to Sony to "confirm if footage of presenters had been fiddled with somehow, or if perhaps there was anything notable about the lighting". According to the site, a Sony representative confirmed that "the presenters were all taped at home" but wouldn't be drawn on any further comments.

If you missed the event entirely, you can catch up right here and see for yourself why such rumours originated in the first place. We now know the next-gen system comes with a 4K UHD Blu-Ray drive - or not, if you'd prefer the disc-less digital version - custom AMD GPU, 10.28 Teraflops of GPU power, and a SSD to drastically improve loading times. Sadly, we're not closer to a price or release date yet, though, so watch this space.
