In surprising news, Sony has confirmed PlayStation Plus will begin to phase out PS4 games from January 2026.
A spokesperson announced, "As many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit, PlayStation Plus is also evolving with this trend and will focus on offering PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit starting January 2026."

The news comes after December's drop, when incredible titles including Lego Horizon Adventures, Soulcalibur III, and Granblue Fantasy: Relink were added to the subscription.
January's games have not yet been confirmed and fans are divided over the upcoming change.
"Oh well, people have had 12 wonderful years with PS4. Now that PS5 is here, it's time to move on to better games," one fan shared on Reddit. "Out with the old, in with the new."
Another argued, "This decision feels arbitrary and wrong. I know the PS4 needs to be sunset at some point, but all they're doing is providing free games."

"This isn't hurting Sony's bottom line at all. What the announcement should have been is that they'll provide more PS5-only games, but still keep the same support for PS4 games. So instead of PS5 players getting three games, they'll get four to five games, whilst PS4 players can still get two to three games."
A third said: "Catering to the PS4 after so many years the PS5 has been out is insane. PS4 has been holding back the PS5 from using its true potential."
