PlayStation Announces First PS5 Price Cut In Certain Regions

PlayStation Announces First PS5 Price Cut In Certain Regions

It's the result of a specific set of circumstances, though.

The PlayStation 5 costs a pretty penny for its disc and discless editions and you might even be one to shell out for expedited delivery if you simply cannot wait til the console lands in your arms. However, in this country, the console is seeing its first price slash and the saving isn't to be sniffed at.

Sony says that it's the fastest-selling console that it's released in its history, so it's stunning to think that people are still twiddling their thumbs while waiting for the next lot of stock. Factors like the pandemic, demand, and semiconductor scarcity are complicating the manufacture of new units and allowing scalpers to prey on those with a severe case of FOMO. I mean, one teenager is making £2,000 a month from selling on these new-gen consoles.

If you're starting to see red, then, I'll let you in on something. In Brazil, players will look forward to lower retail prices for the PlayStation 5 and its peripherals, including the new black and red DualSenses.

As a lifelong fan, Imogen was over the moon to be leaping into the newest Ratchet & Clank adventure and she was not disappointed with Insomniac Games' creativity and passion for Rift Apart. Check out her review below!

Cheers to Comic Book for this spot, which occurred after President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro decreased the importation taxes on video games last week, and that makes it the third cut to the rate during his government. In a statement, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic said that the decision "aims to encourage the development of the electronic games segment in the country - the fastest growing branch of the entertainment sector in the world."

Here are the new prices for the hardware:

  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition - from R$4,199.90 to R$3,899.90
  • PlayStation 5 with Blu-ray Ultra HD player - from R$4,699.90 to R$4,399.90
  • DualSense White Wireless Control - from R$469.90 to R$439.90
  • DualSense Cosmic Red Wireless Control - from R$499.90 to R$469.90
  • DualSense Midnight Black wireless controller - from R$469.90 to R$439.90
  • HD Camera - from R$419.90 for R$389.90
  • PlayStation 4 - from R$2,799.90 to R$2,599.90
  • DUALSHOCK 4 Jet Black Wireless Controller - from R$299.90 to R$279.90
  • DUALSHOCK 4 Colors Wireless Control - from R$319.90 to R$299.90

To save you the effort of a Google search, the discless edition of the PlayStation 5 dropped from $780 to $725 in United States dollars. An awesome price cut, if I do say so myself. And, we would imagine that a saving is to be had on the Xbox Series X and Series S too, but there hasn't been an announcement about those consoles in Brazil yet.
