PlayStation Plus Free Games For October 2019 Announced

Baseball and the fall of man.

PlayStation has announced the two free PS4 games that subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service can look forward to this October, and it's a pretty darn tasty selection. By that, I mean you'll all definitely be massively into one of the games on offer, and the other one will likely be met with a collective shrug by the majority. Unless you're really into baseball, that is.

The first freebie is MLB The Show 19, which is... well, it's a baseball game. I'm not entirely sure how many people are going to work themselves into an excited frenzy over this one, but it is apparently regarded as one of the better console sport games out there so... I mean, you might as well check it out if you're already subscribed to PS Plus, right?

Moving swiftly on, the second free game in the mix is the excellent The Last Of Us Remastered. That's the PS4 port of the genre-defining PS3 classic, complete with gorgeous remastered visuals and the wonderfully bleak Left Behind DLC chapter. It is, in this writer's humble opinion, the definitive way to experience one of the best games of the last 20 years, so if you've never played Naughty Dog's critically-acclaimed gem before, now is the time. If you've already given it a whirl before, you might as well give it another go to get reacquainted with the characters and world ahead of the upcoming sequel, which we now know launches on February 21, 2020.

Both titles will be available to download from the PlayStation Store from October 1, at which point they'll be available in your library and yours to play whenever you want - right up until you stop paying for a PS Plus subscription, that is. Don't forget that you have until September 30 to get your hands on this month's offerings; Batman: Arkham Knight, and Darksiders III.

Doubtless, there will be plenty of PlayStation gamers who react with disappointment to October's offerings. After all, there can't be that many gamers out there who own a PS4 and haven't already played through The Last Of Us, but I see this is a good opportunity to revisit the franchise and really start getting ready for the sequel. Plus it's a pretty damn scary game, so it should make for some fun Halloween playthroughs. All in all, It's almost enough to make me forget that we don't get Vita or PS3 games in the bundle anymore. Almost.
