Xbox Users Share Must-Know Advice As Game Pass Cancellations Rise

Don't forget this

For those worried that cancelling your Xbox Game Pass subscriptions will mess up your games, listen up.

Xbox Game Pass subscriptions are being cancelled at an alarming rate following yesterday’s news of another price hike.

Xbox users are disgusted with the company's approach to the service, as it’s not just increased the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it’s trying to justify it with bonus features no one wanted or asked for. Subscribers will soon have access to Fortnite Crew as part of their subscriptions, which is a nice addition but useless for the thousands of gamers who don’t play Fortnite.

For those who do want to cancel though but are scared of what it could mean for their game library, pay attention to this Reddit post by Friendly_Cap_3.

Posting to the Starfield subreddit, the Xbox user wanted to know if cancelling their subscription meant they’d lose access to their save file if they simply bought the game or resubscribed at a later date.

As the comments correctly pointed out, this would not be the case, nor would it be for any other game.

Xbox save data is stored on the cloud, which has nothing to do with Xbox Game Pass so cancelling your subscription won’t change anything.

I’m sure the majority of Xbox users knew this anyway, but for those with new consoles or those who just wanted to double-check, rest assured, your save files will be fine if you cancel.

That said, cancelling is easier said than done at the moment, or at least it was yesterday. As expected, many Xbox Game Pass subscribers flocked to Microsoft’s website to cancel their subscriptions to the service.

There were so many users putting requests in that the web page crashed, so if that isn’t a sign to Microsoft that mistakes have been made, I’m not sure what is.

If you’re unhappy with the state of the new price but don’t want to get rid of your membership entirely, you do have some options.

PC users have their own tier to subscribe to that’ll give them day-one releases but at a cheaper price than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and for those on consoles, your best option is to just drop down to a more affordable tier.

With any luck, this outcry from fans will persuade Xbox to change things back to what they were before, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
