Why Some Xbox One Achievements Aren't Being Rewarded

Only some games are being impacted

Trophy and achievement hunters out there will know that getting that latest unlock is the best source of dopamine.

However, a recent Xbox outage has reportedly made that impossible with many users reporting that they are unable to unlock achievements, especially on the Xbox One.

If you have been getting stuck into an Xbox game recently but have noticed that some achievements are just not popping, you are not alone as thousands of users have reported the same issue.

With reports suggesting that this outage has been in effect for around two days, it seems to be as the result of problems on Microsoft’s end. More specifically, it seems to be heavily focused on Xbox One games that were released prior to 2019.

“Is anybody able to unlock any achievements right now?” One user asked over on r/xboxachievements.

“Is anyone here able to unlock any achievements at all in Xbox One games released between 2013-2019 right now?”

The games affected seem to be mostly Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox One, Ori and the Blind Forest, Cuphead, and more.

More specifically, Xbox One games released between 2013 to 2018.

Why just certain games?

Although this seems unusual, it is because the majority of Xbox One titles use a Microsoft system called event-based achievements (formerly cloud-powered achievements, according to TrueAchievements.

This sends in-game telemetry to Xbox servers to unlock achievements once you have met the requirements needed.

Microsoft itself is yet to release a statement about this outage, with the Xbox Status page not even listing it as a current issue.

So if you are achievement hunting on any Xbox games released during this period, it will probably be worth holding off until a solution is presented so you do not miss out. Either way, fans took to social media to share their thoughts over yet another Microsoft blunder.

“I’ve been waiting two days for two achievements to unlock for Dead Rising 4 (2016) and Star Wars Battlefront (2015) aren’t tracking progress,” one user shared.

“I have unlocked achievements for Gears of War 2 (2008) and The Casting of Frank Stone (2024) immediately.

Definitely something wrong on Microsoft’s end.”

Another user agreed, adding, “It’s worrying that MS has not released a statement yet, it's been days.”

At the time of writing, Microsoft has not commented and so it remains to be seen when this issue will be fixed.
