A rumoured next-gen Xbox console design has been roasted by fans, and to be honest, I can see why.
Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X/S in November 2020, and nearly five years later, rumblings of the next console are becoming more prominent. At this time, we can only speculate what the next Xbox will look like and how powerful it might be.
However, images have been circulating the internet in recent days for what is rumoured to be Xbox’s first attempt to make its mark in the handheld console market.

As reported by Dexerto, the rumoured new Xbox handheld console sees Microsoft collaborating with PC manufacturer Asus, and it’s fair to say that not everyone is impressed.
“The new Xbox handheld, Project Kennan, has been leaked,” tweeted Dexerto. “The device is a collaboration between Microsoft and Asus.”

“‘Project Kennan’ is the ROG Ally 2 with an Xbox button,” replied MKH2K9, referring to the Steam Deck competitor, created by Asus, already on the market.
“This is literally a ROG Ally lol,” laughed kmbleed.
“This is not the Xbox handheld, this is in partnership with Asus,” wrote PostUp_SOG.

“That’s just an ROG Ally with new grips,” said spuddgaming.
I must admit, I’m not keen on the design. The D-Pad, analogue sticks and even the handles look on the cheap side.
To me, it looks like a MadCatz controller from the early 2000s has been chopped in half and had a screen glued in the middle. Saying that, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the ROG Ally 2, so hopefully this potential collaboration has some promise.
If the Microsoft/Xbox handheld console sees the light of day, fingers crossed, it will undergo a redesign. If official information drops, we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we learn more.
