News of Xbox’s next console has seemingly leaked from Jez Corden, who details the plans behind Microsoft’s future.
According to Corden, there is currently no ‘dev kit’ available for developers, and they’re being asked to target a set of specifications, rather than develop on an Xbox.
If everything is an Xbox, then the next Xbox might just be a PC
Among the details, the next Xbox is scheduled to be a “PC in essence but with a TV friendly shell,” which might open up a wealth of possibilities for players.
While some fans are thrilled with the news, others seem undecided on this future, and then there are those who believe the console is coming too soon, with it billed to appear in 2027.

Of course, this is all rumour, and likely some speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt.
The idea of it being a “PC in essence” is creating a lot of questions from those over on Reddit.
“I genuinely don't see the excitement for this approach. If it's a PC, then just buy/build a pc?” comments lucax55.
Should the hardware be upgradeable, it would offer a lot of possibility for players, then there are those who want some PC specific features without the cost and hassle of building a PC.

One of the biggest queries Redditors have is backward compatibility.
“If this is the case, I just hope it has a compatibility layer with Xbox One and Series games and the other backwards compatibility stuff,” said TopBoog.
One user wonders how the hardware could work, saying, “If the next Xbox really is like a current console fully locked down, with the ability to then switch over to pc mode and do whatever, I'd be very happy.”
Will the next Xbox have access to Steam? Will it allow Linux? Will it be digital only, like the Steam Deck?

Let’s hope Microsoft announces something in the coming months, or the speculation will run rampant.
