What was once regarded as a fun game is now driving Xbox fans to despair.

On the surface, a new free game joining Xbox Game Pass is a cause for celebration; however, not everyone feels that way.

Since this title became available for Xbox users from 24 July, all hell’s broken loose, and not in an entertaining way.

Modern Warfare III is finally available on the Microsoft subscription service, with the new Black Ops 6 also due to get the Xbox Game Pass treatment upon release.

Yet, the Call of Duty fandom is far from happy.

The issue has arisen from Warzone PC players being able to disguise themselves as Xbox players.

This might not sound like a big issue, but believe you and me, it is.

PC users playing via the Microsoft Store are being incorrectly labelled as Xbox players, with this misidentification allowing them to fly under the radar.

Consequently, Xbox users have dubbed the game “unplayable” as the surge of cheaters continues to hijack their experience.

“Basically unplayable. Almost impossible to stay alive on the ground and barely even get to it,” remarked Redditor ZaphBeebs.

Another user added, “Ran into five different cheaters in five different games last night,” further reinforcing how difficult it is to currently play.

There seems to be an influx in cheaters across Warzone after Season 5 launch, including in Ranked.

Many of the cheaters seem to be playing via PC Game Pass (Microsoft Store version) as they appear with "Xbox" logo in lobby and are using hacks.

Cheaters are nothing new, we know this.

However, they’re normally spotted by Activision’s anti-cheat software; this isn’t happening this time around.

To make matters worse, Activision has yet to address the issue publicly.

Fans aren’t certain a solution is available, though, given the extent of how many users are taking advantage of the system.

“It’s literally every game now,” posted Twitter account HnC Lootopia, “Everyone [is] using modded controllers or some other hacks whether on PC or console. It’s just getting stupid at this point.”

Someone else joked that you’d have to “report the whole lobby” because the situation has got that bad.

With little to no help available, Warzone has turned into... well... a war zone.
