It pays to check your emails, even if you’re one of those people who lets the notifications stack up, you never know when there might be some gold just sitting there.

One Xbox player happened to check their emails and spotted something from Microsoft, raising their hopes of some luck.

Everything is an Xbox now, didn't you know?

Initially, the player thought the email was spam. It’s no surprise, the communication from Microsoft was informing them they’d won a prize.

After hedging their bets, probably closing their eyes, and clicking the email, it turns out they had won 1,000 Microsoft Points.

Nice, right? That’s a bit of cash to spend on a new game.

Well, it goes further, as sometin_else explains in their Reddit thread on the topic.

Once they went to accept the prize, probably still hoping it’s not a Nigerian prince on the other end of the email chain, the Microsoft points were unavailable, and instead they were given a $15 Visa card.

It’s one of those virtual cards that is spent and then ceases to exist, so in the end, the player ended up with a tasty $15 to spend.

You might be thinking, ‘but $15 is worth more than 1,000 points,’ and you’d be correct.

Perhaps this user had entered a giveaway or sweepstake, but they didn’t report of any competition they had entered.

What’s the lesson here? I suppose, you should be checking your emails, especially if you’re the kind of person who does occasionally enter competitions.

The player came back to Reddit to say it was legit, and they’ve spent the money, saying, “yup, just spent the cc on an Amazon [gift card] so def worth it.”

Why are you still sitting here reading this? Go and check your email. Why not enter a few giveaways while you’re at it, you never know your luck.
