Xbox gamers are mixed on the company’s new Series X model, specifically the bold new design it went with.

Xbox is no stranger to special edition consoles and controllers. In fact, there’s practically a new one every month to coincide with an upcoming game, like the Indiana Jones And The Great Circle one that requires you to complete a puzzle to claim it.

Nevertheless, the special editions are always popular, especially the controllers, so it’s no surprise that Xbox continues to produce new ones.

One of the latest models though, the Galaxy Black Xbox Series X and controller, hasn’t had the same appeal with fans, with many criticising the console’s design.

Boasting extra storage space and a design that looks like it’s come from outer space, the Series X costs a whopping £549.99.

An Xbox user on Reddit who recently bought the console made a post about how much they love it, saying, “I don’t care if anyone says it’s too expensive, I think the look and the extra storage is well worth it!”

Unfortunately, others didn’t share their opinion, as one fan said the new console “looks like it got left out while someone was painting the ceiling,” and I can kind of see it.

Another comment was a bit more civil, saying if Xbox was going to go with the galaxy-themed design it should have made “the whole controller galaxy styled, not just the d-pad and the buttons.”

Others argued that it's fine if you don’t yet own a Series X console, but if you’re looking for a worthy upgrade to the base model, this simply isn’t it, as you can expand your current console’s storage with an external hard drive or SSD.

Personally I don’t think the new Series X looks that bad when it’s actually in front of you, but there are nicer special edition consoles out there.
