This is sad unwelcomed news. It’s been announced that the Xbox 360 store is shutting down for good.

It truly is the end of an era. We can’t be totally surprised that the Xbox 360 store is shutting down. Console generations come and go, and to think that the Xbox 360 has persevered for as long as it has is something to be commended. It’s a console that oozes nostalgia. Its life cycle brought us Dead Rising, Halo 3, Fable II … I could go on. Some really iconic gems. Still, they do say all good things must come to an end. Microsoft took to the Xbox blog to share the news.

Starfield will soon launch on Xbox. Take a look at the latest trailer below.

Announcing the news, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox 360 store will shut down for good on 29 July, 2024. On that date, the store will, “stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace.”

Microsoft further added that the Microsoft Movies & TV app “will no longer function on Xbox 360, which means TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on your Xbox 360 after” 29 July. You can still continue to purchase from the store between now and that date.

It’s also important to note that this shutdown won’t affect the playability of your purchased games. Any games or DLC purchased before 29 June will remain playable after that date. It is simply the storefront which will shut down. Still, I think we’ll all be sad to see it go.
