Microsoft has been issuing unexpected refunds for Red Dead Redemption on Xbox.
If you were to ask a pool of Red Dead Redemption fans as to which is the best between the 2010 game starring John Marston or the 2018 prequel starring Arthur Morgan, there’s a good chance that you might get an answer split right down the middle.
Heck, someone might even throw a spanner into the works by saying Red Dead Revolver. Either way, it doesn't matter which game in Rockstar Games’ wild west series you prefer; each is absolutely a classic.
Despite releasing in 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it would take very patient PC gamers to wait 14 long years for the game to arrive on Steam. But I suppose it was well worth the wait.
A New Port of Red Dead Redemption Arrived in 2023
However, before Red Dead Redemption was released on PC in 2024, it would arrive a year earlier on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It would then later arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in December 2025, boasting a resolution and framerate boost.

Those who had purchased the PlayStation 4 version would get the new-gen upgrade for free. And the same for those who owned the Xbox 360 version with the Xbox Series X/S upgrade. Yet, for a period of time, the Series X/S version did not appear for free, and some gamers paid full price.

“Got a message from Xbox today telling me that my purchase of the Series X version of Red Dead Redemption that I paid for was refunded,” revealed Redditor Bananas4Batman.
“So, anyone who is trying to get that refund for accidentally buying it before it was free, you'll see a refund! I know people have been getting refunds by requesting them, but now it looks like they're going to automatically start giving refunds back.”
“Just got the message. £10 to my Microsoft account, £14.99 to my PayPal,” replied Big_Daz69.
“I woke up to the same thing. But nothing in my bank account yet,” said Try_Old.

"I really wish you could get it with the physical version somehow. Glad you got your refund, though," exclaimed Wookiee_Hairem.
That Reddit user makes a great point, because at least the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch have physical copies that you can buy from 2023.
If you’ve not received your Red Dead Redemption refund yet, hopefully, you won’t be kept waiting for too long.
