The Sims 4 is once again embracing diversity, this time by including new customisation options for your character. And no, this has nothing to do with fashion.

When The Sims 4 added the ‘Goth Galore Kit’, many fans were left underwhelmed by the lack of options; they could dress in all black, but the customisation felt stereotyped and not inclusive of the full gothic aesthetic.

This latest update, however, is offering a new option that will please all thanks to it embracing the differences that make Sims, and humans, so unique. The free major update adds vitiligo skin so that everyone can recreate themselves in The Sims.

It might seem like a small change to some PC gamers, but vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that affects millions of people, with one in 100 developing vitiligo in the UK alone. Needless to say, it’s more common than we think, and thus it’s important that it’s included in any customisation options, especially those as multifaceted as The Sims.

To make this update happen, Maxis and EA partnered with Winnie Harlow, an activist and model, to make this “magical” change happen. Speaking publicly about the update, Harlow said “It’s magical to see The Sims 4 team introduce this new Vitiligo feature. As a child, I spent a lot of time playing The Sims and I think it’s so beautiful to be able to represent your true self in-game."

The new diversified option is part of Maxis’ ‘Sensationally You’ content, purportedly a season to celebrate what makes everyone unique; a beautiful sentiment. Whether the next round of being unapologetically you in Sims form is as heartwarming as this update, we’re uncertain. Nonetheless, we’re sure it’ll elevate the beloved game even higher in the hearts of its fans.

Go forth now and make your Sims in your likeness, and enjoy the possibilities of being a true god that can create life in their image. We know you’re all going to torture some poor Sims and leave them to die in a pool with no ladder, but we hope some of you will use your godhood for good.
