Gamers who love fantastical adventures with a dark undercurrent need look no further than this free download.

Available on Steam, this new experience blends together elements from The Elder Scrolls VI and Bloodborne to create a “heavy metal horror game” you’ll not soon forget.

That will likely have already piqued your curiosity, but we suspect that when we tell you that a former Skyrim developer worked on this game, your interest will double.

“Hunt nightmarish monsters from ancient folklore in a mysterious open world, collecting their enhanced sense powers and discovering elemental arrows,” its description reads, “Beware, the hunter is also the hunted.”

The Axis Unseen promises scares, heavy metal, and action. Are you prepared?

The tense experience is called The Axis Unseen, and is from the developer/publisher Just Purkey Games.

Although the game isn’t due to launch until 22 October, PC users can sample the horrors of the title already thanks to its free demo.

The Axis Unseen’s free download is available now, though, as is commonplace with many Steam titles, it doesn’t appear to be compatible with macOS.

Assuming you’re able to play its demo, you’ll be able to get a taste of the mystery of the hunters long since passed.

“Find out what happened to the hunters who came before you and what secrets they uncovered by inspecting their journals and drawings. Where did this world come from? How do you stop the creatures from escaping into your world?”

From what we’ve seen and read about The Axis Unseen, it looks like a thrilling adventure that’s sure to scratch that itch Bloodborne fans have been forced to endure as they wait for any sign of a remaster.

Should you not be interested in this game, there are other freebies to browse while exploring Steam.

Currently, there are three free downloads up for grabs that you don’t need a subscription for.

There are also plenty of free RPGs, as well as other genres, waiting for you to become the hero of the tale once more.

Adventuring is super easy when you have free Steam downloads to explore. Just make sure you’re prepared for some heavy metal moments if you play The Axis Unseen.
