This Steam game is hot off the presses, and it’s already generated a rather impressive review score… and you can have it right now, for free!

What’s better than a free game on Steam? A free game that is, by all accounts, actually a bit of a banger.

Today's freebie is titled ESC/APE, and it's currently sitting at a "Positive" review score on Steam, with roughly 97% of the reviews being positive.

Described as a "first-person, physics-based combat game", ESC/APE was developed and published by a team of students at the Vancouver Film School, who are pretty well known for pumping out back-to-back free bangers on Steam.

You'll be taking on the role of Abe, a "genetically enhanced ape bred for combat" who has been imprisoned in a testing facility. Apparently, Abe has had enough of being poked and prodded by scientists, so you'll have to help him manoeuvre his fists through their heads to help him escape.

I think this one looks pretty fun, but, as always, don’t feel the need to take my word for it, because here’s what the reviewers over on Steam are saying about it.

“I really enjoyed this game, and the game developers did a really great job on the level design, art, VFX, etc”, writes Steam user Kirrodev.

“I HIGHLY RECOMMEND PLAYING THIS GAME! I give this game an 10/10. Very well done.”

“fantastic game it's chaotic, its crazy, and confusing, and it's funny, The chaos you create as you mash the pick up and throw button and finding interesting ester eggs like putting on the dropped glasses where all incredible well done 10/10 experience!” commented Steam user theZuc.

“quite literally the best free student made video game”, writes Steam user reiooooo.

“super fun movement physics and combat physics. if you have any free time i recommend getting and trying this game. also an amazing game for speed running.”

Honestly, I don’t know what’s the water over at the Vancouver Film School, because this is probably the tenth time I’ve written an article about a banger game that they’ve dropped on Steam.

Clearly they’re doing something right over there. Here’s hoping that the folks that put ESC/APE together go on to have long and storied careers, because I’m already looking forward to seeing what they work on next (and I’m looking forward to actually paying for that game next time, too).
