Starfield available to download now on Steam ahead of Early Access

Players wanting to prepare for space exploration can download Starfield on Steam now

It’s the eve before Starfield’s review embargo lifts, and only a few more days before Early Access opens up, not to mention the official launch on 6 September. Basically, it’s all hands on deck. If you want to be ready to blast into space, you can download the game now.

For those of you who’ve already pre-ordered the game, you can head to Steam to begin downloading the hefty file that is Starfield. It was already a considerably sized game to begin with, but after the Xbox game file update, this game is well and truly chonky. Anyone who’s downloaded big games, like Diablo IV, will know it can take hours for it to be fully installed and ready to play with no hitches. Who wants that noise when they’re trying to make a living in space?

Gamers with a PC Pass have been able to preload the game for some time now, with the official launch dates of this Bethesda gaming more than convoluted depending on the edition you purchase. Rather than simply launch on one date, Bethesda has multiple semi-official dates, like having the Premium Edition or Constellation Edition giving you access from 1 September onwards. Now that Starfield has overtaken Baldur’s Gate 3 for the top download on Steam, it seems that most gamers are preloading to save time.

Although the release date(s) are somewhat confusing, it’s obvious that Bethesda is putting a lot of weight behind the game; they need this to be a success. Not that it looks like Starfield will fail, but there’s a definite desire to make this the best game it’s ever created. Despite this, however, there are still concerns about the game, especially from PC players after performance leaks have raised concerns.

It’s a tense time all around for the devs, critics, and fans. Our review is coming – once that embargo lifts, we’ll be able to give GAMINGbible’s full thoughts on this sci-fi romping RPG. But until then, if you’re keen to play this game as soon as possible, preloading it is the wise choice, assuming you have that option.

Starfield will enter Early aAccess from 1 September, and officially launches on 6 September on PC and Xbox.
