Waiting around for the third Red Dead Redemption game is something we cannot avoid, for we can’t force it to release any faster.

That said, we don’t have to sit in stasis during that time.

There’s already a third Red Dead title that you can play, though oftentimes gamers forget it exists.

Red Dead Revolver is a classic Rockstar experience hailing from the early 00s. It’s the first game in the series, yet many treat Read Dead Redemption as the very first.

Arguably, this is due to the fact that Red Dead Revolver is a “very different” experience.

Check out the Red Dead Revolver trailer below. Be warned, it's proper old school

It has grit, but not in the same way the later titles do.

For one, it’s “stage based”.

“It's fun but it's stage based, as opposed to being open world like the following entries. Revolver is definitely not a western GTA,” explained DangleMangler.

This might be off-putting for some, however, sometimes open-world adventures can feel too overwhelming; Red Dead Revolver removes that issue.

Should you need more convincing that this game is worthy of your time, let’s use its narrative as the primary example for why you should play.

Described as a “very good story”, the tale follows Red Harlow, a man trying to find his parents’ killers.

What you’ll experience is a different beast in many ways, but it has the angst that keeps encouraging us to replay Red Dead Redemption 2.

Although it’s a “game from a different time”, it’s one you’ve likely not bothered with before, thus allowing you to take a rest from experiencing Arthur’s trauma first-hand for the umpteenth time.

There’s only so much misery we can take.

Just know that you won’t get a crisp, smooth playthrough as this is an old game, with its age is really beginning to show.
