What's this? More discourse you say?

The next lead for Red Dead Redemption has large boots to fill.

Arguably, this is why so much discourse surrounds the game’s possible main protagonist.

We adore John and Arthur so much that it’s hard to picture someone else leading us on a new Wild West adventure.

Yet that’s the reality fans are dealing with given the way previous stories ended.

But is the speculated lead for Red Dead Redemption 3 the right choice? Fans have thoughts.

The debate started when Redditor troubleInLA said that they believed Charles was the best choice for the next lead in the Rockstar Games’ series.

Charles certainly has many endearing features as detailed by the OP, “He's reserved, cares about humanity and nature, and just freakin’ cool.”

However, is that the right fit for the franchise?

Both John and Arthur, while tender on occasion, had a more chaotic nature to them; it’s what made them so appealing to players.

It seems that others share this opinion too.

“Charles was a decent side character but wouldn’t make a great main character,” argued unchartedscrub, “He’s too boring and I agree his story is done. Wouldn’t mind seeing a native protagonist but we need all new characters.”

User GettingMilkFromTesco commented speaking of their love for Charles, but that he doesn’t have the ability to “carry a game as the lead”.

“He’s perfect as a side character and a good moral guide for Arthur. He just can’t carry a game as the lead. If Rockstar had game him a bit more personality and made him similar to the rest in terms of morals, then it’d be fine. A DLC focusing on him would be awesome though,” they explained.

Yet, while these Red Dead fans clearly aren’t sold on Charles as the main man of the adventure, others are open to the idea.

A Redditor remarked, “I dunno, having another prequel as Charles and joining the gang before Blackwater would be pretty cool.”

The jury’s still out despite all the discussions taking place.

Rockstar might throw a curve ball yet and go outside of its comfort zone to give us a lead who may ruffle feathers. Dare we suggest a woman...?

Whichever character takes the lead, we know for a fact that discourse and division will follow.
