Rockstar Games is giving Red Dead Redemption 2 Online players the chance to win a free item, and all they have to do is take part in some Halloween-themed challenges.

With the spooky season upon us, it’s now time for various video games to get out the Halloween decorations and give its players some tricks and treats, like Hogwarts Legacy is doing.

This time though we’re talking about Red Dead Redemption 2 Online, which has some freebies on offer as we get closer to Halloween.

While it hasn’t had the same support as GTA V Online did, Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode is still well-worth playing, especially on PC where there’s a more active playerbase and mods.

For console and PC players though, you can now acquire the black and white Darned Stockings to dress your character with, after all it only makes sense to look your best when you’ve got a bounty on your head.

This is part of a new event to strike terror into the hearts of Red Dead Redemption 2 players, as a new mode can now be enjoyed with a horror twist.

All you need to o to win your stockings is get to Wave 5 in All Hallows’ Call to Arms, upon which your reward will be added to your wardrobe automatically, though you've only got until 7 October to claim yours.

Even if you don’t care about the new clothing item it’s worth getting involved in the event anyway, as you can still earn XP and money from taking part.

For those who want to get into the spooky season mood in singleplayer though, why not check out our list of the creepiest Easter eggs and locations you can find in the base game.

This includes bangers such as a serial killer’s den, a shrine to a familiar face from the first Red Dead Redemption game, and even a monster living in a cave.
