The Last Of Us Part 3 release plan leaves fans divided

It's gonna happen, right?

The Last of Us fans are divided over the release plans for the third entry in the popular Naughty Dog series.

Fans have reason to celebrate with the arrival of the second season of the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us from HBO this week. So in the coming months, there’s likely going to be a lot more hype than usual when it comes to the Naughty Dog series.

Check out The Last of Us Part II Remastered trailer below!

The hype surrounding season two of the HBO series is no doubt a reason why PlayStation released The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II Remastered (again) as part of The Last of Us Complete last week.

That being said, how long will this bundle remain as the “Complete” edition, because surely it won't be so complete when The Last of Us Part III graces us with its presence, right?

Naughty Dog chief Neil Druckmann has teased The Last of Us Part III, as long as it can have a compelling story to justify its release. But let’s be honest, given how Sony and Naughty Dog like to milk this property, I think we’d be more surprised if the third entry in the series was never released.

On the topic of The Last of Us Part III, in March 2025, Neil Druckmann said “Don’t bet on there being more Last of Us” adding “This could be it,” suggesting that The Last of Us Part II could be the last game. Really, Neil, really?

Neil Druckmann’s words were discussed on Reddit and it’s fair to say that most fans of The Last of Us are sceptical.

“So what I’m understanding is that Part III is coming soon,” said ImaginationArtistic9.

“After all Druckmann and Naughty Dog went through with Part II, I believe that if we do get a Part III, they will make a surprise announcement out of nowhere and then the game will be released within three to six months after that,” explained istrx13.

I assume what istrx13 is alluding to is the leaks that plagued the internet before the release of The Last of Us Part II in 2020 and all the backlash that followed regarding its plot. Some of which was false information relating to the Abby character.

“Neil has to stop acting like Ellie's story is complete. It isn't,” replied FRED44444.

“There will definitely be Part III at some point,” claimed Galactus1231.
