The original The Last of Us has been on quite the journey.

It was succeeded by The Last of Us Remastered, which in turn was followed by the remade The Last of Us Part I.

If you thought that was the end of the road, you thought wrong as The Last of Us Part I has received a free mid-gen update to coincide with the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

There are plenty of jokes you can make about the many editions of this game but as it’s my all-time favourite, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t fun to see the title optimised for almost every console since its launch.

When the PlayStation 5 Pro was announced, The Last of Us Part II Remastered was one of the example games used during the showcase to demonstrate the power of the console, but we didn’t know what would happen to its predecessor.

It felt like a no-brainer that Part I would also receive a free Pro update, but that’s now been confirmed as Naughty Dog has already launched the relevant updates for both game instalments.

Take a look at what we thought of The Last of Us Part II Remastered below.

It appears, judging by the patch notes, that the newly added Pro modes are identical for both Part I and Part II.

Players who load up either game on PlayStation 5 Pro will be able to render the graphics at 1440p, with the PSSR upscaling increasing the resolution to 4K.

As for the framerate, as that’s always the one that generates chatter for whatever reason, both Part I and Part II should maintain a target of 60fps.

Like I said, the update has already launched, so players should see the Pro mode listed alongside Performance and Fidelity options.

Of course, it won’t come into its own until PlayStation 5 Pro consoles are shipped in the coming weeks.

The official launch date of the console is 7 November.

Still, if you’re someone who’s splashed the cash on this bit of kit, it’s well worth making sure that you have this free update downloaded and ready to go.
