The Last Of Us fan makes heartbreaking prologue discovery on 'thousandth playthrough'

And now I'm crying

The Last of Us’ second season is finally underway on HBO.

If you haven’t watched it yet, do not worry; I won’t be addressing any spoilers.

I simply wanted to highlight how hyped I am. I spent all weekend rewatching the first season to prepare myself and I’ll be honest, I’m now desperate to embark on another playthrough of both Part I and Part II.

Is it fair to ignore my backlog when I only replayed these games for the umpteenth time around a year ago? Yeah, I reckon it is.

If you also find yourself revisiting The Last of Us Part I soon, don’t rush through the prologue as one player has stumbled across an interesting detail that adds much more emotional weight to a fan-favourite Part II scene.

ICYMI: Here’s the trailer for The Last of Us’ second season.

This discovery came from Reddit user Objective-Note-9042.

ā€œThousandth playthrough of TLOU Part 1 and this discovery in Sarah’s room made me sob and gave more meaning to Part 2,ā€ they began.

ā€œThis is something so simple yet powerful for me. Sarah has a planetary space picture on her wall in her room at the start of Part 1 which is why Joel was so excited to take Ellie to the planetary space area of the museum in Part 2 for that very special moment (and by far one of my favorites in the series),ā€ they continued.

ā€œThe realisation that Sarah was into space and sci-fi too and that’s why Joel admired Ellie being into the same, this clicked and I started crying. Such a neat way something from the second game elaborates on such a teenee tiny detail in the first.ā€

It breaks my heart knowing how much Joel cared for Ellie and how fractious their relationship became in Part II.

She healed him, and it’s little connections like this that really bring home the gaping hole that Ellie helped fill in Joel’s heart.

ā€œThere’s also a giraffe in her room,ā€ added -aMONEY-.

CommisionerGordon79 noted, ā€œJoel also mentions that Sarah loved museums: ā€˜I swear that girl dragged me to every damn museum in Texas’.ā€

It’s true. I really think Ellie and Sarah would’ve got along great and it’s exactly for this reason that Joel finds such a familial connection in Ellie.

That museum scene is going to break me in season two.
