Remember when we thought of Red Dead Redemption and didn’t think of drama, anger, and divisions? No? We feel you – we’re struggling too, especially now the RDR port has hit PlayStation 5.

What should, technically, be a source of joy is still a source of much anger. Ever since fans learned that they would be charged $49.99 for a game that’s 13 years old, they’ve been incredibly bitter about RDR making its way onto new-gen consoles.

The so-called “commercially accurate” price has caused some fans to take it upon themselves to review bomb the game. While others are taking a less intense approach but by no means quieter: they’ve sought comfort in Reddit, which is rarely a wise move when fans are still ticked off.

Redditor Finn_Flame started a thread by laying down the facts of the port release, in what can only be described as brutally honest style. “Red Dead Redemption port is coming to PS5 and Switch tomorrow: not a remake - not a remaster - not a PS5 version. It’s the 2010 game without multiplayer, nothing else.”

Those be fightin’ words. Words which other fans are quick to support with their own insights into the whole saga that I’ll dub ‘the death of RDR’. OrangeYawn said “An outdated game simply being ported doesn't seem like a $20 price increase is justified”, to which justxkyle responded: “Well that's because it's not, my friend. It's what we call a ‘non-gamer move’”.

Further down the thread, one gamer pointed out that Xbox players have a much better dealer in all of this, which is sure to only deepen the divide that some feel when it comes to the war of the consoles. 2OptionsIsNotChoice said “Don't forget you can play the Xbox360 version on any modern Xbox console and it will run better than this full priced port due to Xboxs excellent reverse compatibility.”

It could be argued that now is the time to lay down arms and accept fate for what it is. However, with how fandoms struggle to go quietly into the night, we suspect this fury will continue for days, maybe even weeks yet.

Red Dead Redemption is now available on PlayStation 5.
