In an effort to jazz up the PlayStation 5 that little bit more, Sony has brought out another hardware update which is free for all users.
Customisation for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 was impressive for its time, allowing users to utilise dynamic backgrounds and more.
However, with customization seemingly stripped back with the launch of the PlayStation 5 back in 2020, users have been calling out for more.
Luckily, Sony has seemingly heard our pleas and has gradually been rolling out hardware updates that allow us to customise our PS5s at will.

That is the case for yet another update arriving now.
The update impacts the PlayStation 5’s Welcome Hub app as it introduces a brand-new widget complete with stat tracking.
“Check your recent gaming activity and jump directly to recently played games”, the widget description reads.
Not only that but a new dynamic seasonal background has been added which will switch throughout the year.
The new widget will allow you to track your recently played games, showing your total number of hours, how many sessions you have played, and finally, your overall game progress.
You will also get to see your trophies to see how far you are away from 100% completion.
This widget can be turned on and off so it is up to you if you wish to see these new statistics.

And a new dynamic background
Next up are the new dynamic seasonal backgrounds which are linked to the current season and time of year.
Right now, users will see an autumnal background with falling leaves but we can expect this to change soon with winter fast approaching.
Of course, you can add your own background here and choose from the few that Sony has to offer but it definitely makes a nice new addition nonetheless.
This free update has reportedly started to roll out now so even if you do not have it yet, it won’t be long before you do.
Make sure to switch on the ‘Recently Played’ widget in your settings if it does not appear automatically.
These new updates just go to show the changes that could arrive with the upcoming PlayStation 6 which is rumoured to launch in just a few years.
With users loving the opportunity to customise their consoles at will, let us just hope that Sony is taking notes in the meantime.
