Each month PlayStation Plus members get excited (and then oftentimes disappointed) by Sony’s latest selection of free games.

Unfortunately, the latter was the case for the month of January with Sony adding three main games to its PlayStation Plus essential service that left a lot to be desired.

Check out the reveal trailer for God of War: Ragnarök Valhalla below!

The first was a failed live-service title which can’t even be given away for free, the second was a standard racing game and the third, well, that one was decent seeing as it’s widely regarded as one of the best indie games of all time.

Of course, these were Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.

However, members' fortunes were turned around during the month's extra and premium tier drop which welcomed the addition of God of War: Ragnarök.

Released back in November 2022 as the direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, this action-adventure title by Santa Monica Studio went on to be nominated for Game of the Year and although it missed out, it was still a highlight of 2022.

Now it is free to download for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.

Not only that but those who download God of War: Ragnarök can also get their hands on its DLC, Valhalla, for free.

Be aware that the DLC must be downloaded separately and does not come alongside the base game.

For those unfamiliar with the Valhalla DLC, its official synopsis reads as follows: “Master Thyself. After the events of Ragnarök, Kratos sees a path for himself he never thought possible, bringing him to the shores of Valhalla."

"Accompanied only by Mimir, Kratos embarks on a deeply personal and reflective journey that pushes him to master mind and body as he is confronted with the challenges of Valhalla in an unravelling, replayable adventure that blends the beloved combat from God of War: Ragnarök with brand new elements inspired by the roguelite genre.”
