The hype may currently concern PlayStation Plus’ newest extra and premium tier additions, but you shouldn’t sleep on September’s essential selection.

As a reminder, Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder are all available now - and they’re yours to keep once claimed as long as you remain a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

Stardew Valley is the cosy life sim that needs no introduction, while Viewfinder is a wonderful indie which sees you uncover mysteries via a camera.

Psychonauts 2, however, is the title that I want to highlight today.

Developed by Double Fine Productions and originally launched back in 2021, Psychonauts 2 is a very fun platforming adventure game that I recommend you check out.

Let’s get the main question I’m sure you have out of the way first: do you need to have played Psychonauts?

No, you don’t.

I’d urge you to play the first game if you can as it’s a blast, but Psychonauts 2 feels somewhat like a fresh start and is perfect for players with zero knowledge.

It centres around protagonist Razputin ‘Raz’ Aquato who has now joined the international psychic espionage organisation known as the Psychnauts.

In this latest caper, the Psychonauts’ leader is saved from a kidnapping but doesn’t appear quite the same upon his return.

With a murderous villain at large and a possible mole hiding in the group’s headquarters, Raz is set out on yet another wild adventure.

You’ll leap, trapeze, and swing your way through the game’s colourful and vibrant levels, making use of an array of psychic powers.

These can help you blast, burn, slow down, and levitate both obstacles and foes that stand in your way.

A quick trip over to Steam and you’ll see that Psychonauts 2 boasts 'Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews.

“Almost four years late, and I'm mad I didn't buy it sooner. Genuinely one of the funnest gaming experiences from start to finish I've ever had,” read one review.

“Psychonauts 2 is a wonderful, funny, weird game but most of all, it is a really good 3D platformer game,” added another.

“This game is legit some of the most fun I've had in a while. I had played the first one eons ago and I enjoyed it, but I believe I enjoyed this one even more. From the story, the gameplay mechanics, to the visuals. Everything has a unique charm. You can tell Double Fine put everything into this,” declared one fan.

You can’t ask for higher praise than that. Consider adding it to your library.
