PlayStation Plus first free game for August officially confirmed

You won't want to miss out on this one

There’s nothing better than a day one release, especially if that day one release is free for PlayStation Plus members.

Well that is the case for one upcoming release which will be heading to the PlayStation Plus library this August.

Available for PS Plus Premium and Extra members, this release will launch on 19 August at no extra cost for members so without further ado, let us take a look at the game.

It is Sword of the Sea, an adventure game from Giant Squid and the visionary artist behind ABZU, The Pathless, and Journey.

In this atmospheric surfing adventure, Sword of the Sea will see you surf across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters on a quest to restore a lost ocean.

Inspired by classic snowboarding and skateboarding games, this stunning release will see you carve your way forward on a powerful Hoversword.

“Build momentum to reach top speed and catch big air off the crests of giant waves. Pull off radical flips, spins, and grab tricks with ease as you shred halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides. It’s the perfect balance of exhilarating action and fluid, meditative movement,” the official description reads.

You will play as the Wraith - a resurrected hero from the desolate Necropolis who is on a quest to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land.

“Discover the remnants of a lost culture hidden in sinking tombs and skatepark-like ruins as you search for purpose. Transform sandy dunes into glittering, emerald waters and witness magical sealife return in huge, breathtaking shoals.

Feel the spiritual magic of surfing as you connect with nature and restore life – but beware, there is also darkness lurking under the waves.”

Sword of the Sea launches on PlayStation 5 and PC on 19 August and it is safe to say that fans are excited.

“Was very much looking forward to this game, so having it on PS+ is so hype,” user Packer224 shared.

Another user agreed, adding, “Nice, I loved Abzu and Journey.”
