There is no arguing that Sony’s PlayStation Plus offerings can sometimes miss the mark.

However, one free game on the PS Plus service right now is an underrated gem and has been described as “engrossing” by fans.

Check out the PlayStation Plus subscription service below!

“Indie title? Sure. Questionable quality assets? Definitely. Really engrossing gameplay? For sure,” one fan describes it over on r/PlayStationPlus.

“I can only really describe it as Detroit: Become Human crossed with Telltale’s The Walking Dead in first person.

Not the biggest fans of most additions this month, but I am on board for this title.”

The title in question is Road 96, a 2021 release which tasks the player with hitchhiking their way to freedom in a procedurally generated road trip.

In other words, no two road trips will be the same.

Developed by Digixart, Road 96 was considered as one of the best indie games of 2021 and is praised for its interactive story.

It takes place in the summer of 1996 and your only job is to escape the regime and find freedom as you hit the open road.

“On this risky road trip to the border, you’ll meet incredible characters, and discover their intertwined stories and secrets in an ever-evolving adventure,” the official synopsis reads.

“But every mile opens up a choice to make. Your decisions will change your adventure, change the people you meet, maybe even change the world.

There are thousands of roads across the authoritarian nation of Petria.

Which one will you take?”

Now free to download on PlayStation Plus, Road 96 is being praised by subscribers.

“It’s a good game. Bought it and platinum’d it half a year ago. Soundtrack is also enjoyable,” one comment read.

Another said: “Bought it and it's prequel on Xbox as well as the PS versions. Great narrative game. Very unique in its gameplay.”
