PlayStation Plus free download is the most fun and accessible game I've played this year

Let’s get ready to rumble!

One of the most fun fighting games to be released this year is free to download and play right now on PlayStation Plus.

If you subscribe to Sony’s top PlayStation Plus Premium tier, you will have a whole host of benefits alongside the hundreds of video games instantly playable at the press of a button. You will gain access to a curated selection of free movies, cloud gaming, and the topic of today’s discussion, Game Trials.

ICYMI: WWE Superstars pick their top five video games ever!

Back in the 90s and 2000s, one of the joys of buying the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine was the wonderful demo disc. Long before the times when the internet was a regular household commodity, demo discs were the best way to try upcoming or newly released video games for free which helped reduce the risk of money being wasted on a spontaneous full game purchase.

Sadly, demo discs are pretty much non-existent nowadays and while there are tons of free demos on platforms such as Steam, the Xbox Marketplace and PlayStation Store, it’s probably fair to say that playable demos aren't quite as prominent as they once were.

Thankfully, at least, as long as you subscribe to PlayStation Plus Premium, you can take the benefits of a playable demo with Game Trials to the next level. In most cases, data will not transfer from a demo into a full game but with the PS Plus Game Trials, save data and all trophies earned will.

With that in mind, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can download and play one of the most fun and accessible fighting games to be released this year with WWE 2K24. In my review of WWE 2K24, I said it’s a “near-perfect pro wrestling game,” and with tons of modes, in-depth creation suites and over 200 playable Superstars, there’s plenty of fun to be had long after the two-hour PS Plus Game Trial expires.

However, one of the best aspects of WWE 2K24 is how accessible it is to play for gamers of all skill levels. If you wanted to take on a family member or friend with little experience of this series, then button mash away. What’s more, with WWE 2K24 being one of the few modern AAA games that offers couch multiplayer, it’s always nice to have those in-person bragging rights.

WWE 2K24 is an ideal game to pick up, play and leave your thoughts at the front door. It also has a variety of accessibility options to help cater for specific needs such as not having to rapidly press the buttons during QTE moments. Yet, if you want to get into the gameplay mechanics of WWE 2K24, the game is deep enough for you to do so and become a master of the squared circle.

Plus with WWE Raw and other flagship shows coming to Netflix in 2025, WWE 2K24 is a great way to get acquainted with the likes of ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, CM Punk, ‘The EST of WWE’ Bianca Belair, ‘The Nightmare’ Rhea Ripley and many more.

WWE 2K24 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
