The month of December has got PlayStation Plus subscribers talking, for better or worse, with many wondering what’s in store for 2025.

Christmas is not only the season of giving with family and friends, but it’s also a time for awkward social gatherings that many of us would never choose to attend under different circumstances. It’s also a time when subscribers to Sony’s PlayStation Plus hope that the year will end with a bang.

Sadly, while you might think that Christmas would be a time for Sony to pull out all the stops and offer the best possible line-up with its PlayStation Plus service, given that December might bring in loads of new subscribers, it’s never quite worked out that way.

While some previous December PlayStation Plus offerings have been okay, others haven't been the strongest. Sure, the response to what games are on offer is subjective to how one might perceive value, but I always hope for something extra for the festive season.

PS Plus Essential in December Has Been a Mixed Bag

Reddit user kabirsingh84 has been looking back at some of the December line-ups over the last five years for PlayStation Plus Essential.

For me, 2020 would probably be the worst year with Just Cause 4 (an okay game), Rocket Arena and Worms Rumble.

Whereas the best year, in my opinion, would be 2022, solely because it included Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I don’t care much for Biomutant or Divine Knockout. Saying that, 2021, 2023 and 2024 are quite solid months with the latter being the best overall.

“Where are the PowerWash Simulator heads at? That's my chicken soup for the old man's soul,” said Doogihowser, referring to 2023.

“PowerWash Simulator was my life for a while. Wake up, Power Wash, work all day, get home, and Power Wash until bed,” revealed Gnardude.

“Mass Effect Legendary Edition was released three years ago. I should get around to that,” declared Claire4Win. Yes, you really should.

“Ah, yes, 2021. The year they got away with giving out the paid demo for Godfall as a free game. Aside from that, December seems to be a fairly decent month,” replied Pennance1989.

“Give us Star Wars Outlaws or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you cowards,” demanded daywalker91.

We expect that the latest additions to PlayStation Plus Essential will be announced tomorrow, on Wednesday 26 November. Those games will then be available on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. We’ll let you know as soon as that information drops.
