Sony has just revealed that a surprising new release is coming to PlayStation Plus on day one, and fans of a specific rootin’ tootin’ cowboy shootin’ franchise are sure to be thrilled with the news.
If you slept through the entirety of yesterday, this one is going to be a bit of a double whammy for you. That’s because, as announced by Rockstar Games last night, the original Red Dead Redemption is getting a current-gen upgrade.
The 2010 classic is finally coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2 next month. It's also coming to IOS, Android and, yes, even Netflix. Plus, they’re graciously throwing in the standalone DLC Undead Nightmare.
If you already own the game on previous-generation systems, then you’ll be able to get your hands on a free upgrade for the current-gen versions of the game. If not, however, there is another way you can get your mitts on it at no extra cost.

That's because Sony has just updated the PlayStation Blog to reveal that the current-gen upgrade of Red Dead Redemption is landing on PlayStation Plus on the same day of its release, for both PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium members.

Also, if you’ve yet to upgrade to a PlayStation 5, they’re also offering the PlayStation 4 version of the game on PS Plus, too. And you’ll even be able to port your save data from the PS4 version over to PS5 once you do upgrade.
Incredible news for the ultra-patient gamers who have somehow resisted the urge to buy any new Rockstar Games titles in the last two decades, because Red Dead Redemption will be joining Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation Plus once it drops.

If you don’t fancy paying full price for the game at release and you’re not a PlayStation Plus subscriber, there is another option. That’s because Rockstar Games is also adding Red Dead Redemption to the GTA+ Games Library, so you’ll be able to play this one on the cheap regardless of which platform you’re on.
All good stuff, but hopefully now that Rockstar Games has got this out of the way, they can finally move on to that Red Dead Redemption II remaster we’ve been hearing so much about for the past year.
Maybe that’ll come packaged alongside Undead Nightmare II as well. Also, maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow and discover that I’ve won the lottery. Anything is possible.
