PlayStation finally bringing Killzone back in new release

Back in the zone

Sony had us enter the zone several times from the early 00s until 2013, but then it stopped. Abruptly.

What was once a popular Sony franchise seemed to disappear completely, leaving fans wondering what happened.

Given how long it’s been since a Killzone title was released, fans had all but given up hope it would return.

Are you ready to join in the mayhem in Helldivers 2?

Yet, it is coming back, albeit not as you expected.

Rather than a new Killzone game, it seems like the worlds of two great franchise are about to collide.

We’re talking about a Helldivers 2 x Killzone crossover.

A datamine shared by @Iron_S1ghts revealed an upcoming addition to the game titled Righteous Revenants Warbond.

If you’ve yet to find that Killzone connection, that’s because the crucial clue was in the image that’s since been removed by the copyright holder.

Others have shared it again in the social media comments that follow, but we don’t want to upset anyone, so we’ll leave you to seek it out.

Still, nothing suggests legitimacy more than seeing something removed for copyright issues.

As for what the image in question, IGN described it as featuring the “recognisable” elements of Killzone’s Helghast, specifically the “gas masks and red eyes”.

The response to the possible return has been extremely positive, with fans almost afraid to get hyped lest they end up disappointed.

“Please tell me that's real,” posted @SuperTiso. “I'll buy HD2 right now.”

Returning to the question of legitimacy, here’s a comment from @bigboyrobo that draws attention to the image being removed.

“Hohoho, they took it down. It's not a leak anymore, it's a confirmation,” they argued.

When this crossover is meant to happen is unclear, though now that the cat’s out of the bag, so to speak, maybe PlayStation will act quickly to address the situation.

Having a release date is the least interesting thing about this leak though – fans are just happy that Killzone is coming back.
