PlayStation Gamers Surprised With Free Download That Requires No PS Plus

Nostalgic feels

PlayStation gamers are pleasantly surprised with a batch of free downloads that require no PS Plus subscription.

To the surprise of some PlayStation gamers, free downloads that we all thought we lost in time have made a welcome comeback, and they’re available to claim right now.

Truth be told, I don't care much for modern PlayStation avatars. Don't get me wrong, they’re fine and the artwork can be great, but there was something extra special about the avatars available on the PS3, and so too were its dynamic themes, especially on PS4.

It’s the reason why, out of all the avatars I have to pick on my PlayStation 5, I’m still using the old-school Leon S. Kennedy picture from Resident Evil 4. Retro Leon just hits differently.

Avatars from the glorious PlayStation 3 days can still be accessed via the PS5, but unfortunately, it seems, not via the PlayStation mobile app, or at least, they weren't.

As brought to our attention by Reddit user Marino_2603, PlayStation 3 avatars are now available on the PS mobile app. “PS3 avatars are back on the PS5 and PS app!” they exclaimed, sharing a ton of Resident Evil pics, as well as a Nathan Drake cameo. There are also a load more avatars to choose from, other than the ones shown here.

I don't know if all the PS3 avatars weren't available for everyone on the PS5, but as I mentioned, some were available already, for me at least, so perhaps this is a new mobile app thing.

“It’s still missing some of mine, but I’m glad to have most of them back,” replied xiluts.

“Thanks for the update," said ProjectValentine, with For-the-Cubbies adding, “Thanks for the heads up!”

Now, if Sony would kindly bring back a ton of updated dynamic themes to PlayStation 5, I’ll be its best friend forever (probably).
