PlayStation offering free credit to celebrate PS Plus 15th anniversary

I hope you like competitive games

PlayStation Plus is in the midst of celebrating its 15th anniversary.

You might hope such an occasion would be marked with the arrival of a major first-party title on the service’s catalogue.

That would be too straightforward.

Instead, Sony is celebrating the anniversary with tournaments, store offers, a free multiplayer weekend, and the arrival of new game trials on PlayStation Plus’ premium tier.

The essential tier’s monthly games were also unveiled in the anniversary blog post and while it’s a decent line-up - Diablo IV, King of Fighters XV, and Jusant - I can’t say it feels bolstered by the anniversary in any way.

Hopefully, the extra and premium additions (due to be announced in mid July) will add some hype to this occasion.

In the meantime, I want to fill you in on how you can win some store currency for several popular titles.

This time, you don’t need to scrounge around on PlayStation Stars earning measly points; what you need to do instead is enter the PlayStation Plus 15th Anniversary Cup tournament.

This is already currently underway, running until 1 August, and includes the games TEKKEN 8, Madden 25, NBA 2K25, Guilty Gear -Strive-, UFC 5, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, Mortal Kombat 1, EA FC 25, College Football 25, and College Football 26.

Each game will run for a select time period between now and 1 August.

For example, Mortal Kombat 1’s contest is only running until 9 July; you can find the full schedule on PlayStation’s site.

Entering one of these tournaments, which you can do so via navigating to the Tournaments card on the PS5’s control centre, will secure you a special, limited-time commemorative avatar.

There are much better prizes to be won should you actually place well in your respective tournament.

Those prizes, according to the PlayStation blog, include in-game virtual currency and Sony Pictures Core Movie credits - perfect if you want to celebrate your win by nabbing some new cosmetics or, uh, a film to watch?

Listen, it’s a random prize pool. I’m working with what I’ve got.

You should also be able to find these tournaments via in-game menus as well as the PS5 tournaments cards, and it’s perhaps worth pointing out that you’ll be paired in 1v1 matchups.

If you do enter, good luck! I hope you walk away with some juicy credit.
