PlayStation and SNK have announced that a beta test is coming to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for the upcoming fighter, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

The open beta will be available to all PlayStation users and doesn’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription to take part.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves comes to consoles and PC in April

Fatal Fury has a long and storied history in the fighting game genre, and it’s great to see a new release battling its way onto consoles.

This beta will be available from 20 February through to 24 February, and feature eight characters to try out while fans hammer the network test.

Players will be able to check out a few different ways to play via Ranked Match, Casual Match, and the offline training mode.

You can even set up Room Matches to challenge your friends if you don’t fancy playing against random players across the world.

You’ll be able to download the beta from the PlayStation store - there’s no need to preorder the game, or register on a third-party website to gain access.

This is the first new entry in the Fatal Fury series for 26 years, and fans have been eagerly awaiting a hands-on opportunity with the title.

Fan favourites like Andy Bogard will be making a return appearance, and Ken from Street Fighter will also be available for players when the game launches in April.

The full game will feature all the online and arcade modes you’d expect, though it’ll also come with a single-player story mode called ‘Episodes of South Town.’

This exclusive mode will feature some light RPG mechanics to earn XP and additional skills for your fighters.

Make sure to mark the dates of the beta on your calendar if you fancy throwing down and testing out the network for the dev team in this free chance to try the game early.
