If you’ve turned on your PlayStation 5 console in the last 24 hours, you may have noticed a brand new system update in your install queue. Wondered what the update entails exactly? Wonder no further. You’ve come to the right place.

Coming in at 1.186GB, the update includes several useful new features, particularly for those of you who recently nabbed the new PULSE Elite wireless headset and/or PULSE Explore wireless earbuds (or plan to soon). You can now use the sound equaliser feature in relation to both of these products, plus they’re now compatible with the sidetone feature which allows you to adjust the volume of your own voice on voice chat, depending on whether you enjoy the sound of your own voice or not. I’m presuming the vast majority of us are going to fall into the latter camp.

Upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Death Stranding 2 is rumoured to land this year. Check out the latest trailer below.

Also on the topic of the PULSE Elite wireless headset and PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, a notification should now appear on the console allowing you to quickly and easily set up a connection. The update’s patch notes add that you can now “switch the connection from your PC to your PS5 through this notification.”

If you haven’t picked up some new audio equipment, worry not. There are a couple of features which should prove to be useful to all users. The first is regarding Parties. In the Parties tab, you’ll now be able to see a list of Parties you’ve joined in the past. You can then select from these to rejoin.

Elsewhere, the update improves “system software performance and stability”, vague but we’ll take it. “Messages and usability on some screens” should also have been given an improvement boost. It’s very much welcomed to see Sony continuing to refine and perfect the system. You can view the full patch notes here.
