Since its inception back in 2020, the PlayStation 5 home screen has remained mostly unchanged, much to player’s dismay.

However, a brand-new update courtesy of Sony is set to change that with some users already reporting the exciting new change.

The Welcome screen was many user’s first experience with the PlayStation 5 and despite its functionality, it not having been updated for the past five years has fans believing that Sony has missed out on a lot of potential.

However, this new update which has already started rolling out to PlayStation Beta programme members, introduces a brand-new widget to the Welcome page.

Captured by Reddit user MFTLrage, the widget introduces a way to see more information about your most recently played game.

In this example, we see that MFTLrage last played Elden Ring and we can also see their Game Progress, Trophies, Time Played, Friends Who Play, Screenshots, and Gaming Sessions.

As with every other update that first arrives for beta members, we can expect it to roll out to all PlayStation 5 users globally over the next couple of months.

This may not offer any extra functionality, but it is a cool way to see some interesting stats about your current game and will definitely be worthwhile for trophy hunters out there.

Over on r/playstation, some other users offered their thoughts on this new widget.

“I'd love them to add transparency to the widgets if they aren't selected. I'd like to actually be able to see my background”, one user suggested.

Another user simply said: “Useful!”

This is just one of many updates that Sony has rolled out for the PS5 this year after finally adding dynamic backgrounds to the console.

Despite insiders claiming that the PS6 is currently in its early stages of development, it is clear that Sony has not yet given up on its current-gen baby.
