In a matter of days, a massive free download will arrive on your PlayStation that requires no PS Plus membership.

Expect “intense combat”, “unique tactical action”, and “an unrivalled sense of realism”.

Being able to experience such a large freebie isn’t always possible if you’re not a PS Plus subscriber.

What this means, besides the obvious joy we feel when such free downloads appear, is that we’re always surprised when they become available.

It’s like receiving a little gift from PlayStation we didn’t know was coming.

Check out the gameplay features in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Dynasty Warriors: Origins’ existence isn’t a surprise – we’ve known about the game for several months now – however, we were shocked to see a free demo available.

Said to “showcase the series like never before”, the upcoming action game is already shaping up to be a fine addition to the 27 year old franchise.

Few series manage to withstand the tests of time and retain such a loyal fandom, which is further testament to the franchise’s continued quality.

Even though interest has always been there, it has waned somewhat over the years. Arguably, Dynasty Warriors: Origins looks set to reinvigorate the fandom.

“Haven't been this excited for a Dynasty Warriors game in a LONG time,” remarked @d_shuffles.

Fellow fan @MinhVo-ig7no added, “Man, the scale of the battle looks really awesome, so far the battle atmosphere really seems like the best in the franchise for me.”

Although the free PS5 download isn’t of the full game, it’s of a sizeable demo that’ll throw you into the heat of the battle.

You’ll be taking part in the Battle of Sishui Gate, which is a section of the game previously seen at the Tokyo Game Show.

While it may be familiar ground, the experience has been “enhanced” to include “additional elements”.

The demo will become available from 22 November, so you don’t have to wait long before you can flex your strategic muscles.

If you enjoy what you play, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is set to release on 17 January 2025.
