The end is calling

Inside sources are pointing to one of the PlayStation 4’s final big releases being the next iteration in the Call of Duty franchise.

According to CharlieIntel, who posted the leak over on Twitter, it seems the previous generation of consoles won’t get left behind, though this could very well be the last hurrah.

Will the next Call of Duty be the last hurrah for PS4?

In the social media post, it’s said, “Call of Duty 2025 could still release on PS4 and Xbox One, per sources. Supporting last-gen in 2025 is a wild decision, but the game is in development for the old consoles, from what we've heard.”

While some may be surprised to see the PS4 still receiving support from Activision, many gamers still haven’t bitten the bullet on the latest console and make up a large portion of the audience.

CharlieIntel went on to speculate, “This may be a reason as to why there can't be two big maps in Warzone at the same time.”

We are, of course, reaching a point where supporting older consoles will start to hold back certain experiences, so this could be the final Call of Duty title to emerge for the PS4.

It’s been said for some time that splitting production over two consoles will inevitably hold back developers, particularly when creating more expansive and detailed experiences.

Not only could this be the final Call of Duty for PS4, but it may very well be the final ‘big game’ for the system, as developers look to the PS5 for their catalogue of games.

Little is known about the next Call of Duty release, which will likely be unveiled in the Summer.

The last game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, was seen as a return to form, with the campaign being one of the standout moments for the franchise.

Of course, Warzone is still pulling in millions of players who will eagerly anticipate the next release, and how it changes the battle royale.
