God of War fans might have something to get excited about if this rumour turns out to be true.

According to a source who has been posting on Reddit, there will be a big announcement for God of War at Sony’s State of Play event this week.

We might be heading back to Greece with a God of War announcement soon

In a new Reddit post, it is mentioned that Sony could be ready to announce a remaster of the God of War Greek saga, meaning the original games making a comeback.

The news comes from an apparently reliable source who correctly predicted the recent Ninja Gaiden and Hell is Us announcements.

Should this turn out to be real, it would be the first time revisiting the classic games for a fair few years.

“I really want this to be true,” said mustafaX0_0. You and me both, buddy.

Another Redditor taps into their excitement, saying, “I would buy that so fast. Been wanting to play the first 2 games for so long, since the last time I played them was more than 10 years ago.”

While there is some trepidation regarding this rumour - many would want to see a new game rather than remasters - there’s a lot of love for the original God of War games.

“Inject it directly into my vein,” said one fan, while another exclaimed, “Omfg I’d be soooo stoked if this is real.”

The first batch of games in the series were very different to the more recent ‘rebooted’ Norse saga.

Rather than slow and thoughtful combat, they were frenetic hack-and-slash titles filled with scores of enemies.

They’re very much a product of their time, but there’s a reason they are so adored and fans will happily buy in again.

“Loved them on PS2, and was really happy to replay them again on PS3. I'd happily rebuy them again with modern enhancements,” says a long time fan.

All will, possibly, be revealed tonight during the State of Play.
