An Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim modder has created a touching tribute to his late mother, right at the start of the game.

While the majority of mods for games like Skyrim consist of quality-of-life gameplay changes, graphical enhancements and entire expansions, some mods can have an even deeper meaning. An example of this can be seen in a new mod created by VIIVII, who’s installed a tribute to his mother who was a huge fan of Bethesda’s RPG.

Take a look at Skyrim below

Available vai NexusMods, its title reads In memory of my Mom, and places a shrine dedicated to the modder’s mum, who passed away at 46, in the beginning area of the game.

The shrine itself is reportedly an altered Mara shrine, which when interacted with cures the player of disease while fortifying their health, magic and stamina. It’s positioned just outside the area the game starts in, because according to the modder their mum “suffered from a severe case of restartitis” and would frequently begin a new save file.

They went on to say they received help in creating the mod, and ironically their mum “never played with mods and now her memory will be one.” They then ended the post by encouraging players to “call your parents and tell them you love them. You never know how much time you have with them.”

It’s an incredibly touching story, and it’s lovely to think something as simple as a video game can hold such a deeper meaning in the hearts of players and the ones they played the game with.

Similar tributes have been featured in others, such as Starfield when one player requested the aid of fans to make their in-game character look as close to their late father as possible, which they happily helped with.

The user’s Skyrim mod is available to download via NexusMods.
