Ever wondered what Dark Souls would look like in first-person? Well, Eldrimar is almost exactly that, and you can play a demo of it right now.

Eldrimar is a first-person RPG that blends action, adventure and survival gameplay into a dark fantasy setting. Players will become the main character Saron, who’s on a quest to save his people and land, while destroying any undead monsters that stand in his way.

In-game areas are reportedly very large, and non-linear so you can explore and traverse them however you’d like.

Visually, it’s a treat for the eyes, with incredibly detailed environments and spectacular lighting effects. Gameplay looks solid too, with a good mix of close-quarters, ranged and magical combat with a large variety of different weapons and spells to choose from.

The game’s description also promises a diverse range of enemies to fight, as well as some puzzles to solve during the course of your adventure.

It very clearly takes some inspiration from FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series, though don’t expect any impossible boss fights or severe penalties upon death. While its playstyle is drastically different to a souls-like, it’s likely the closest we’ll ever get to a first-person Dark Souls game outside of mods.

At the moment, the game is in Early Access, but is scheduled for release sometime during 2023, with no concrete release date set as of yet. If it sounds like your cup of tea though, you’re in luck, as there’s a free demo available right now on Steam.

If you’re a fan of the fantasy genre or want to try something new, Eldrimar might be worth considering and promises a grim story filled with danger and challenge.
