Pokémon fans surprised with gorgeous new year free download you can claim now

Pokémon fans can celebrate the turning of the new year with some tasty freebies on Pokémon TCG Pocket.

If you’ve not already noticed, the mobile version of the popular Pokémon TCG is celebrating 2025 by giving away limited edition cards and opportunities to open Mythical Island booster packs.

Pokémon is teaming up with Aardman studios for an upcoming animation project

As part of the limited time event, players will be able to grab a full-art Pikachu card which you’ll receive simply for logging into the game.

While the Christmas event offered up freebies for logging into the game, this New Year’s event requires a bit more effort.

Battling, whether against human players or A.I., will reward you with some booster packs of Mythical Island.

Saying thanks after wonder picks can also land you a pack to open, as will the picking itself.

As a bonus treat, completing set numbers of the New Year missions will offer up wonder hourglasses, but also a very swish New Year frame for your card collection.

On top of this event, there’s also a new Blastoise Drop event for battling, with five new Pokémon promo cards up for grabs.

Of course, one of these is a full-art Blastoise, but there are also cards featuring, Snivy, Volcarona, Eevee, and Cinccino.

When you win a battle, you’ll be rewarded with a promo pack that has a chance to give one of these cards, so completing the set will take a few battles.

While racking up the wins, more wonder hourglasses will be given out too, so it’s a perfect time to try and get those rare cards or duplicates for shiny effects.

There’s plenty to keep you coming back to Pokémon TCG Pocket over the next week, and it’s the ideal time to start playing if you missed the boat.

With these two events, you’d easily be able to collect a good portion of the Mythical Island cards through free packs and wonder picking.
