Earlier this month saw Nintendo finally unveil the Nintendo Switch 2 in a livestream which also gave us a glimpse of some of its new features and the exciting games that will be released alongside it.

However, the livestream missed out one important piece of information: the price.

Check out an overview for the Nintendo Switch 2 below!

It was after the stream that the price for the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed and it is safe to say that it was a punch in the gut for many potential customers.

As it stands, the Nintendo Switch 2 will retail at £395.99 for the console, or £429.99 if you opt for the Mario Kart World bundle.

In the U.S., the handheld itself will be $449.99 with the Mario Kart bundle bringing it up to $499.99.

It is a definite investment and definitely not accessible for everyone.

However, a recent rumour of a price drop has left fans feeling divided.

This news comes after user brzzcode took to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours to share the rumoured price drop after translating a Youtube video from Puerta al Sótano.

The Spanish Youtuber seemingly has insider information about a price drop and said the following:

“Nintendo is considering dropping the price due to the negative repercussions.

"Nintendo saw the repercussions and the people saying to “drop the price” in Treehouse.

They are aware of this and are considering changing their stance.”

Puerta went on to compare this to when Nintendo changed the price of the Nintendo 3DS after its launch, but if they were to adjust the price of the Switch 2, they would instead do it before release.

He also claims that it may not happen but that “Nintendo has a meeting with retailers to discuss the subject.

“First, the priority is about the games which are the most negative subject.

I don't know about the console but I imagine that would be harder as they would need to eat the cost.”

As you can imagine, the comments were filled with users sharing their disbelief, both over a potential price drop and this Youtuber’s source (the source is non-existent).

So, it is worth taking with a pinch of salt.

That being said, we can still remain hopeful that the price could change in the future to reflect the ongoing Cost of Living crisis.
