The Nintendo 64 has returned in the year of our lord 2024

We are so back

There’s no denying that the Nintendo 64 is one of the best consoles ever. The range of games and the quirky but delightful controller made it a barnstormer for Nintendo.

The N64 holds a special place in the hearts of many—and not just Nintendo fans—because of the sheer wonder on display in Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and many more.

For a fully 4K experience in this generation the PlayStation 5 Pro could be the console for you.

Of course, nowadays, it’s tough playing the classics. Either the hardware isn’t compatible with your TV or display, it’s just temperamental, or you have to go down the shady emulation route.

Enter the Analogue 3D. Not an official Nintendo product, but a full-fledged piece of hardware capable of reading and playing N64 games.

The console hardware uses zero emulation and reads games directly from their original cartridges. It also runs straight into your 4K display.

Featuring a fully original OS along with Bluetooth controllers, this is a radically modern piece of kit that does everything the original N64 did but scales it up for modern audiences.

Better than all of those points - the Analogue 3D is completely region-free so you can play games from all over the world, expanding your library and playing titles you missed the first time around.

The console features all original display modes with pixel perfect upscaling and, to quote the promotional materials, it is “meticulously reproduced, virtually indistinguishable recreations of CRT displays”.

The Analogue 3D even looks the part, slightly mirroring the N64 design but bringing a touch of modern flair to the unit.

“Analogue 3D represents a milestone in video game preservation: it's not only the world's first reimagining of an N64 - but the world's first 100% compatible recreation of an N64.”

Pre-orders for the console open on 21 October and will cost $249.99, while the 8BitDo 64 Controller will cost $39.99.
