While you wait for Mass Effect 5 why not play the entire trilogy all over again but from a different perspective, first-person.

The Mass Effect games are predominantly third-person and while there’s nothing wrong with that I’m sure many will have wondered if the games would have seen a similar level of success if they were first-person instead, like Halo.

Check out the teaser for the next Mass Effect game below

Third-person shooters allow for a better view of the world around you, and likely an easier time making tactical decisions when in the heat of battle.

First-person is far more intense but third-person just has a better feel to it, at least in my opinion.

There’s a mod you can download for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition which compiles all three games with enhanced visuals and quality-of-life improvements, and the mod will throw in a first-person mode as well.

The mod works by switching the camera when the player is in combat and not currently hiding behind cover, so when you’re talking to NPCs it’ll be normal.

It works surprisingly well and you can get a feel for what it’d be like on the mod page, as it has a video featuring some gameplay.

Of course Mass Effect 5 won’t be including any such mode, or at least nothing has been confirmed as of yet, so rest-assured you’ll be playing in the normal third-person perspective probably.

It’s amazing what switching perspective can do to a game, with another great example being Halo: Infinite recently introducing an official third-person mode, which again seemed really weird at first but actually worked quite well once you got stuck into gameplay.

If you’re planning on replaying the Mass Effect games in the build-up to Mass Effect 5 I’d recommend giving it a go, maybe not dedicating a whole playthrough to it but at least trying it for a few missions to see what you think.
