GTA 6 'is the most expensive entertainment product of all time', says insider

Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly the most expensive game ever made, with Rockstar planning to set new industry standards with its release.

Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly the most expensive game ever made, with Rockstar Games planning to set new industry standards with its release.

The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI has been unbearable, to say the least. There’s been nothing but radio silence from Rockstar Games, and it’s safe to say fans are driving themselves insane with hints, rumours and speculation about what we could expect when it launches. One leaker who shared parts of the game online is actually facing criminal charges for their impatience but was recently deemed unfit to stand trial by a psychiatrist.

Take a look at the remaster for the fan-favourite GTA game Vice City below!

Amongst all that speculation, the main takeaway has been its size and scale, which will reportedly be one of the biggest open-worlds ever made, not counting titles like Starfield of course. Famous Grand Theft Auto locations like Vice City have been hinted at, and leaks suggest they’ll be more to do than anymore, besides causing the mayhem the series is known for.

New insider information recently released, which suggests development of the game is costing Rockstar a pretty penny, and aims to set a new standard in the games industry. The info was dropped by a hacker, and then shared by the Twitter account @GTAVInewz, which said: “GTA 6 will reportedly cost $2 billion and has been in development since 2014, making it the most expensive entertainment product of all time as Rockstar is determined to set new standards in the industry.”

Given the reported size of the game, it wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that development began many years ago, and the idea that Rockstar plans to use the game to set a new standard for open-world gameplay is definitely exciting. It’s also corroborated by the words of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, who recently stated the developer “seeks perfection” in GTA VI’s design.

The $2 billion development cost may sound enormous because it is, but with a franchise so renowned from fans and critics alike, there’s no doubt it’ll make its money back and then some. In fact, Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to make $1 billion in its first week alone, and combined with all the GTA Online fans moving on from Grand Theft Auto V, that number will only get higher.

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
