It’s finally happened, Rockstar Games has broken its silence on Grand Theft Auto VI, and fans couldn’t be more hyped if they tried.

Rockstar did what Rockstar does best, pull an announcement out of thin air and make us all fall off our chairs in surprise.

The company shared a tweet this afternoon sharing the news that it’ll be celebrating its 25th anniversary, along with the announcement that the first official look at Grand Theft Auto VI will be released sometime in December.

We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.

Thank you,
Sam Houser

This will reportedly be a full-on trailer, leaving people questioning whether the game’s release date will also be announced. Speculation suggests it’ll launch sometime in Spring 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, though a trailer so soon could indicate a late 2024 release depending on how much is shown.

As you would expect, the news went straight to the Grand Theft Auto subreddits, where fans were thrilled to finally have some official confirmation, and not just an unsubstantiated rumour or leak.

One post was made by the user Outlaw_Orthur who proclaimed “IT'S HAPPENING,” along with a screenshot of Rockstar’s tweet.

It’s safe to say fans couldn’t quite contain their excitement, with many finding it hard to believe that official news was actually shared, as well as praising some of the insiders who got the timing right on their leaks.

“Passing out right now.”

“Gentlemen it’s been an honour not having a f******* clue but having a shred of hope with you.”

“My goosebumps just got goosebumps!!”

Now the only thing left to do is wait for December, when an official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI will be shared online, hopefully it’s worth the wait.

When it launches, Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, with a PC port possibly coming sometime after.
