Call Of Duty fans want the series to return to large-scale international wars, instead of covert ops and dismantling drug cartels.

Fans are gearing up for the release of the next Call Of Duty title, Modern Warfare III, which releases later this year in November. It’ll directly follow on from the events of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and see Captain Price and his team face-off against returning CoD villain Marakov,

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show treated us to 10 minutes of campaign gameplay, walking us through the title’s first mission, an explosive prison break.

While fans are excited, and a bit sceptical, about what the new game has in store for them, many have been looking back at previous Call Of Duty entries, and miss the spectacle of the old campaigns. This is due to them taking place during actual wars, and saw the campaign characters on the frontlines of battle for numerous combat scenarios, with a healthy mix of covert ops and espionage missions sprinkled in for good measure.

Now, fans are hoping for a return to explosive, intercontinental conflict in future games, rather than fighting terrorist factions and drug cartels.

This opinion was shared by Reddit user Woddie_321 who created a post saying: “I miss when Call Of Duty made you feel like you were in a war and not fighting drug cartels like the recent games.”

While their opinion wasn’t unanimously shared by everyone else, some did agree that the straightforward storylines of two countries clashing on the battlefield were a much better look for the series.

“Yeah, I loved the old MW set-up of a dual campaign that was semi-totally connected. You had the SAS spec ops missions alongside the all-out war missions of the USMC in MW1.”

“I miss the first Medal of Honors.”

“Thats what happens when you release more games a year than wars declared”

The marketing for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III seemingly hints at several international incidents that’ll take place during the game, so maybe we’ll see the team engaged in some large-scale conflicts in its most pivotal campaign missions.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III releases on the 10th of November for Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.
